Overall Purpose of the Job          

 

Provide support to companions, who need help both emotionally and practically, so they can live and work in the community, develop life skills and realise their full potential to move on when they are ready.

Support the Community Manager in a range of administrative tasks, which may data input on spreadsheets, documenting support sessions, updating health and safety checks and ensuring all administrative tasks related to the management of referrals and rent accounts are regularly updated and accurate.

 

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • To conduct intake interviews, complete needs and risk assessments and induct new Companions into the Community
  • To conduct Support Plan meetings with Companions, monitoring progress and stimulating action
  • To manage/facilitate in-house/external training and development for Companions, supporting their training and skills development as they take on enhanced responsibilities
  • To develop sound relationships with partner agencies in relation to Companion health, benefits and support, to benefit the Community, Companions and potential Companions.  This includes assisting Companions in making and attending appointments (e.g. health, legal, housing, training, benefit-related)
  • To create and react to opportunities to support Companions in an engaging, informal manner, encouraging them to support each other and demonstrating the Emmaus Ethos to help the less fortunate
  • To calmly and effectively deal with Companion problems and issues, using effective problem solving techniques which empower the Companions
  • To maintain appropriate systems for measuring and reporting necessary aspects of Companion care, training, development and achievements within agreed formats and timescales
  • To work with the business teams of the social enterprise, supporting colleagues and attending team meetings, recording and sharing information appropriately and confidentially
  • To ensure activities meet with Emmaus South Wales’ requirements for general duty of care; quality management; legal, health and safety compliance, policies and professional boundaries
  • Any other duties as required by the Community Manager, including holiday/sickness cover requiring occasional extra on-call
